NAWIC Greater Orlando Chapter 73 Scholarship
The Greater Orlando Chapter offers a local scholarship each year in the amount of $500 to two qualified students attending Everglades University, Valencia Community College, Seminole Community College, and University of Central Florida. Eligibility requirements are:

  • The applicant shall be a legal resident of the State of Florida and a United States citizen.
  • The recipient is required to attend one of many Central Florida colleges or universities: Everglades University, Seminole Community College, Valencia Community College, or the University of Central Florida.
  • The applicant must be enrolling/enrolled in a course of study directly related to the construction industry.
  • The applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance; this factor will be given special consideration should other qualifications prove relatively equal.
  • Members of the National Association of Women in Construction or their immediate family are not eligible for awards.

 

Cheryl McBride Teaching Construction Document Specialist (CDS) Course Starting March 8, 2010

The Construction Document Specialist course is an intermediate program that is offered in two parts.  The Greater Orlando NAWIC Chapter will be offering part one of this course starting Monday, March 8, 2010.  This course deals with interpreting information conveyed from architects and engineers to contractors by way of legal documents. 

Instructor Cheryl C. McBride, has twenty-six years experience in the construction industry.  Her vast experience and varied background include working as a field inspector, senior construction inspector, quality assurance engineer, field engineer, estimator, superintendent, constructionmanager, project manager and much, much more.  Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering and an Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology.  She is committed to making this course meaningful, interesting and an outstanding learning experience for each participant.

Help Raise Money for NEF
Fundraiser tickets are available for $10.00 each.  Tickets purchased are eligible for two drawings.  The first drawing will be at Forum May 15-16 and the second drawing will be at National Convention.  National prizes will be cash awards.  First place wins $3,000, second place wins $2,000 and third wins $1,000. 

NAWIC rhinestone pins are also available for $12.00.  What a perfect time to buy one of these to wear at Forum.

ABOUT NEF 

NAWIC's commitment to education can be seen in a variety of areas. For more than 25 years, the NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF) has offered creative and educational programs for students from grade school to high school. The Foundation's award-winning Block Kids program, Building Design program and CAD/Design/Drafting competitions introduce students to careers and opportunities in construction.

Scholarships
The NAWIC Founders' Scholarship Foundation (NFSF) awards scholarships each year to students in college who are pursuing construction-related studies. In the past five years alone, the Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to male and female students. Local chapters also offer scholarships to students in their areas.
